More than 60 firefighters extinguished two fires at Macedonia business on Thursday – Akron Beacon Journal

Multiple fire departments on Aug. 7 extinguished two fires inside a packaging business in Macedonia.
The Macedonia Fire Department and first responders from neighboring communities put out the fires at Jamestown Container Companies, according to a news release from the city of Macedonia.
Macedonia Fire was dispatched to the business shortly after 5:30 p.m. Aug. 7 after an operating piece of machinery caught fire, the release said.
Machinery and surrounding products, such as cardboard bales, caught fire, the release said.
No one was injured, and the building itself was not damaged, per the release.
“Initial reports indicated the fire began in a machine called a (baler) at the rear of the building,” the release said. “Inside, bales of cardboard, stacked 12 to 15 feet high, were burning deep within their cores. After a short time on scene, crews identified that they had two separate fires in the building, each on separate sides of the building. Fire command upgraded their fire response and requested more departments.”
More than 60 firefighters responded to the scene, Macedonia Professional Firefighters Local 3947 said in a Facebook post.
Additional firefighters came from the fire departments of Aurora, Hudson, Northfield Village, Oakwood Village, Stow, Streetsboro, Twinsburg and the Peninsula-based Valley Fire District. Hudson EMS also responded, the release said.
Firefighters had the fire under control by 8:56 p.m., then put out the smoldering hot spots throughout the night, the release said.
“The first couple of hours, there were two fire attacks going on at the same time on opposite sides of the large building,” the release said. “The crew on the other side of the building from the (baler) was fighting a fire in a machine called a cutter. Both fires were contained to the machinery and products around the machinery.”
Working through heavy smoke, crews broke down the cardboard bales to completely extinguish hot spots, the release said.
“After taking some time to sit back and reflect on the events of Thursday evening, we find ourselves humbled and grateful,” Local 3947 wrote.
The Ohio State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, according to the release.
The American Red Cross provided food and water to the firefighters, Local 3947 wrote.
The city and union also thanked Facebook site 330ToGO for asking its followers to provide food and beverages to first responders on scene.
Jamestown Container also has locations in and around the state of New York, according to its website.
