CINCINNATI (WKRC) – In a continued effort to make YouTube more kid-friendly, the site will soon begin tracking user data with artificial intelligence to attempt to guess users' ages.
According to reporting from CNN, the system uses data from user searches and what videos they watch, as well as the account's age.
If the AI determines that a user is under the age of 18, it will automatically place restrictions on the account consistent with the platform's teen safety measures, including restrictions on specific types of videos, appropriate recommendations, and reminders to "take a break" from the app.
If an of-age user is incorrectly identified as a minor, they will have to upload a government ID, credit card, or take a photo of themselves to prove their age, which has many online detractors fearing for their privacy.
What do you think? Will this new system be a hassle, or an effective way to protect children on the site?
