KC Current players open Crossroads storefront for their coffee business Pitchside Coffee – KMBC

Six Kansas City Current players have taken their coffee business a step further, expanding from a coffee truck to a full store.
The new brick-and-mortar store for Pitchside Coffee, located at 1819 Grand Blvd., hosted a grand opening Sunday, bringing in crowds of coffee lovers and Current fans excited to see the space.
The business is owned by six players: Elizabeth Ball, Vanessa DiBernardo, Kristen Hamilton, Hailie Mace, Desiree Scott and Mallory Weber. All six women are listed as co-owners and baristas on Pitchside’s website.
“We all just love coffee, so we had this idea of starting a business, a coffee business,” DiBernardo said at the grand opening.
“It touches everybody’s palate and makes everyone feel like there’s something on the menu for them,” Ball said.
The team said it was great to see so much support right off the bat.
“Kansas City loves its sports teams, so it’s so cool to be able to start something and immediately have fans want to come,” Ball said.
The players sold merch, signed autographs and of course, made plenty of coffee.
But their business venture is about more than just good coffee, they say. It’s about being role models to younger girls.
“Just showing people that we can do stuff outside of our sport,” Ball said.
“Kind of set that example that you can also be an athlete and a business owner,” DiBernardo said.
And if you visit, don’t be surprised to see players behind the counter.
“If we’re not too sore, we’re coming after game day. We’ll be working,” Ball said.
The shop is open Tuesday through Saturday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
