The Orchestre national d’Île-de-France recently announced that Pablo González will serve as its new Music Director and Principal Conductor. He will step into the role in September 2027, for an initial term of four seasons.
González has already worked with the orchestra on a number of occasions, most recently in February 2024, in a program titled “Heroes” and comprising works by Richard Strauss.
Between 2019 and 2023, González was Principal Conductor of the Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra (RTVE) and Artistic Adviser to the Orchestra and Choir, appearing regularly at Madrid’s Teatro Monumental. Prior to this, he was Music Director of the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona I Nacional de Catalunya.
He appears regularly with the Helsinki Philharmonic, Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, The Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern, Dresden Philharmonic, The Hallé in Manchester, Warsaw Philharmonic, and Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana.
Hailing originally from Oviedo, González is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and was the winner of the Donatella Flick and Cadaqués conducting competitions.
“I am deeply honored and thrilled to be appointed Music Director of the Orchestre national d’Île-de-France,” González said. “From our very first encounter, I was struck by the orchestra’s extraordinary commitment, artistic vitality, and remarkable versatility.”
“ONDIF is not only a superb ensemble – it is also a socially engaged institution with a powerful educational mission that resonates profoundly with my own values. I eagerly anticipate the 2027–2028 season, when we will embark on this exciting artistic journey together. Until then, my heart is full of ideas, hopes and sincere gratitude for the trust that has been placed in me.”
“Pablo González has conducted the orchestra on several occasions, and each time he has left a deep impression on the musicians with his high standards and inspiring commitment,” said Pierre Brouchoud, the orchestra’s General Director.
