2 Lane Summer releases 90s throwback ballad – The Music Universe

QHMG/Quartz Hill Records’ soulful country-pop duo, 2 Lane Summer, relases the audio track and official music video for “When You Love Somebody,” an anything-for-you, radio-ready romance.
While many current Nashville records are paying tribute to ’90s country, hooky throwback “When You Love Sombody” takes inspiration from ’90s pop country while also tipping its hat to peak Backstreet Boys. The duo of Joe Hanson and Chris Ray invoke classic vocal echoing whenever the song’s title is repeated across the crazy-catchy chorus, showcasing the smooth harmonies that Billboard has described as “bold and beautiful.”
Written by 2 Lane Summer alongside Mike Mobley (Rascal Flatts’ platinum-certified “Easy”) and the track’s producer, Ash Bowers (Matt Stell’s No. 1 “Prayed for You”), “When You Love Somebody” spends its verses detailing the complicated lengths a man will go to, to keep love alive, then keeps it simple in the chorus: “When you love (when you love) somebody / It’s a free fall feeling you don’t wanna lose / When you love (when you love) somebody / You can’t even stop it if you wanted to.”
Directed by Sam Aldrich, the feel-good tune’s official music video was filmed along a stretch of two-lane road running through the stunning desert landscape of Monument Valley on the Arizona/Utah state line. The road is part of US Route 163, which was made famous by the 1994 Oscar-winning film Forrest Gump.
“Because it’s such a tourist attraction, a lot of people were stopping to see the road while we were filming, but then they got intrigued by what we were doing,” says Chris. “Maybe they thought we were shooting Forrest Gump 2, but they started taking their phones out and videoing us and wanting to take pictures. So that was cool to connect with people out there.”
Shooting took place during 2 Lane Summer’s recent two-week road trip from Tennessee to California and back. The duo traveled along iconic American two-lane roads, also including Route 66 and the Pacific Coast Highway. The road trip took Joe and Chris through nine states – Tennessee, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Missouri – where they met many of the small-town Americans who are celebrated in 2 Lane Summer’s musical toast to country guys and girls, “Here’s to You.”
