Atletico Madrid have fought back to equalise against Liverpool at Anfield after trailing 2-0 inside of six minutes in the Champions League.
Mohamed Salah was responsible for both of the hosts' early goals. The first came from a free kick of his which deflected off of Andy Robertson, while the second was a brilliant finish by the forward after he skipped past the defence.
Marcos Llorente singlehandedly brought the visitors back to parity, however, scoring his first during first-half stoppage time and his second on a deflected volley in the 81st minute.
Alexander Isak made his debut for Liverpool, playing 58 minutes before being subbed off.

The deflection off Mac Allister is unfortunate but Liverpool created problems for themselves there. Bradley had to do better initially.
Llorente has scored four goals in two Champions League appearances at Anfield — he's only scored three in his other 43 games in the competition! Crazy.

Great from Llorente, but Conor Bradley has not done himself any favours since coming on in this second half. A yellow card for a poor challenge, and just been a yard too slow at times.
Atleti’s equaliser only serves to underline that point.

This is now the second time Llorente has scored twice in a game at Anfield — he started tonight's game at right-back!
It came from brilliant industry from Koke in the penalty area, battling away to slide the ball back to Pablo Barrios. His shot was blocked by Konate and it fell beautifully for Llorente to crack a volley towards goal from just outside the penalty area.
It was sweetly struck, took a healthy deflection off Mac Allister and spun past Alisson into the back of the net.
There won't be a single Liverpool fan inside Anfield that didn't see that coming.

Ignore everything I've just said! Atletico Madrid are level through another Marcos Llorente goal at Anfield.

There is certainly an air of nervousness inside Anfield at the moment, but that isn't to say that Liverpool aren't still well on top.
They have a renewed energy having made those subs earlier on, but the Atletico defence looks more assured now than it has done all evening. The issue for the Spaniards, as they look for an equaliser, is that they are struggling to get players up the pitch when they win the ball back.
Arne Slot will be happy with how his players are managing this, I'm sure.

A strong performance tonight from Wirtz — hard-working, full of energy and enthusiasm.
It's a shame he didn't get the break he needed in the box to open his Liverpool account. A couple of times he perhaps tried to do too much.

Another special milestone for Ngumoha as the 17-year-old winger comes on for his Champions League debut.
Wirtz can be proud of his night's work — his best performance in a Liverpool shirt.

Tonight is not the night for Wirtz to announce himself in English football.
He has been replaced by the supremely talented 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha. He scored on his Premier League debut off the bench against Newcastle, let's see if he can do the same on his Champions League debut.

More frustration for the Liverpool fans, after another moment of genius from Mohamed Salah.
Another swift break led by Szoboszlai who picks out Salah. After waiting for the cavalry to arrive, he lifts a superb ball with the outside of the boot to the back post where Ekitike can't quite get a clean connection with his head.
Wirtz tries to salvage it, but gets the ball stuck under his feet and Atletico keep the hosts at bay.

As Jack says that, the Atletico fans are the ones making all the noise inside Anfield at the moment.
It definitely feels like one of those where the home fans are wary of being stung on the counter-attack by their opponents. It happened in this competition five and a half years ago, and there is nothing to say it won't happen again.
Bradley has been shown a yellow card for a naughty foul on Galan.

Some reshuffling from Diego Simone as well. Nahuel Molina is on at right-back, which pushes Llorente into central midfield. Pablo Barrios has moved out to the left, with Gonzalez now playing off Sorloth in attack.
Somehow, Atletico are still in this. And as I typed all that, Salah smacks the post.
They couldn’t, could they?

Brilliant, brilliant football from Liverpool and it really deserves a goal.
Were I a betting man, I would have put a hefty sum of money on Salah scoring, but his effort from pretty close range crashes against the base of the post and away to safety.
Szoboszlai led the charge from his own half, fed the ball out to Ekitike and he found Wirtz who laid the ball off for Salah.
A sumptuous move, but the finish deserted Liverpool's talisman and the lead remains a slender one.

Wirtz has moved out to the left following that triple substitution from Slot.
The versatile Szoboszlai is now playing in a more advanced central midfield role. I think this is the first time in a game this season Slot has had Gravenberch, Mac Allister and Szoboszlai playing together in that unit.

There hasn't been much in the way of clear chances for Liverpool since half-time, but they have thoroughly dominated the first quarter of an hour of the second half.
Not a lot happening for Wirtz (again), but he is working tirelessly and is charging into the press like a Jack Russell with a sore backside.
Two more changes for Atletico as Gallagher and Griezmann have been replaced by Nahuel Molina and Alexander Sorloth.

For anyone doubting Salah’s early-season performances, watch how much stronger he is with bodies around him. As things begin to click for Liverpool with their new signings, you will see Salah benefit even more with his attacking output.

Time for a trio of changes, thinks Arne Slot.
Isak's Liverpool debut is over — he has been replaced by Hugo Ekitike, who has made a great start to his career here.
Elsewhere, Conor Bradley and Alexis Mac Allister are on for Frimpong and Cody Gakpo.

Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 68 home games (W63 D5) in all competitions when leading at the break.
The last team to overturn a half-time deficit against Liverpool? Atletico Madrid when they won 3-2 here in March 2020.
52' Liverpool 2-1 Atletico Madrid
The first chance of the second half has fallen to Atletico.
Raspadori, signed from Atalanta in the summer, turned away from Gravenberch brilliantly inside the penalty area and, despite a tight angle against him, rattled a shot towards goal that was well beaten away by Alisson.
And that is Raspadori's last involvement as he is replaced by stalwart Koke — I suspect that change will force Griezmann into the No 9 position.

We hear a lot about 'that famous Anfield atmosphere' on nights like these, but Atletico did very well to kill the mood inside this place just before half-time.
With fans returning to their seats after enjoying half-time refreshment, there isn't quite the same noise now. The home fans need something to get them off their seats again.
I'm sure an Isak goal would do for them…
