A Chili & Cornbread Cook-Off is being held today from noon to 4 p.m. at Warrenton United Methodist Church as a fundraiser for Hero’s Bridge Village. There will be refreshments, face painting, a bounce house and silent auction.
“We are excited to hold this event where our supporters will have the opportunity to see precisely where the Hero’s Bridge Village will be and ask questions about this exciting project! Bring your checkbooks, there will be lots of fun ways to support construction including t-shirt and brick sales and a silent auction,” according to publicity.
Come for the delicious food, bid on some fantastic auction items, listen to some talented musicians, and stay for the fellowship, according to an event release.
“Whether you’re a chili connoisseur or a cornbread enthusiast, bring your culinary skills to the table! Enter your dish for only $10 and compete for the title of Best Chili or Best Cornbread,” sign up is online.
“Taste your way through the entries and vote for your favorite dish with just $1 per vote. Your vote helps us raise funds and crown our winners!”
Enjoy live performances from Church Street Gospel, bid on a variety silent auction items with all proceeds directly supporting Hero’s Village, an affordable housing development for veterans 65 and older in the community.
Brynmor at Culpeper Baptist invites families and community members to experience the excitement of Touch-a-Truck from 2-4 p.m. today in the church parking lot, 318 S. West St., weather permitting.
This free, family-friendly event gives children the chance to climb inside and explore a wide variety of vehicles—including fire trucks, police cars, and construction equipment. Along with flashing lights and big trucks, kids will have the opportunity to meet the men and women who operate these vehicles and learn how they serve and protect the community every day.
Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Haywood extends an invitation to its Homecoming service at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday. Assistant Pastor, the Rev. Cleo Frye will deliver the sermon, followed by lunch. There will be no afternoon service. All are welcome.
Join St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church of Culpeper at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4 for the Annual High Tea Party. Come enjoy some tea, savories and delicious pastries all while learning about tea and customs. Cost is $40/person, contact the office at 540-825-8786 to RSVP. The Chronic Disease Self-Management Program is a free, 2.5 hour session weekly gathering for six weeks in small workshop for people with any chronic condition and for caregivers. The next session will be held 1-3:30 p.m. every Thursday Oct. 2-Nov. 6 at Culpeper Baptist Church, 318 S. West St. This is an evidence-based self-management workshop that has been found to improve healthful behaviors, improve health status and decrease days in the hospital.
Interactive discussions will include managing symptoms, working with a healthcare team, setting weekly goals, effective problem-solving, nutrition and exercise related to chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma, fatigue, arthritis, emphysema and depression. Pre-registration is required at bvermillion@ecsva.org or 540-547-4824. Materials and information will be available at the first session. Workshop size is limited to 16.
New Beginnings Outreach Center of Culpeper for the past two years has been dedicated to empowering individuals experiencing homelessness to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope. Through compassionate care, access to supportive services, and pathways to stable housing and self-sufficiency, NBOC works directly with those in our community who need it most.
The center is seeking donations of the following items to help them continue serving local neighbors: upholstery cleaner, throw blankets, notebooks, reusable cups, Swiffers, ink pens, pillow cases, white twin-size sheet sets, and locks with keys for lockers. Mountain View Community Church will hold Family Service at 9:15 and 11 a.m. Sunday at the Culpeper Campus, located at 16088 Rogers Road.
The sermon topic for Sunday is, “Colossians – Guard Your Freedom” from the New Testament Book of Colossians 2:16-23. Communion will be offered.

Antioch Baptist Church Madison will host Family & Friends Day at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5, with guest speaker, Minister Nelson Page of the Growth Church Fredericksburg. There will be a cookout and youth activities following service. This will be Dress Down Sunday.
A Fish Fry, Auto Show & Community Day will be held 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Antioch Baptist Church in Madison.

The Culpeper Food Closet is a community outreach ministry created and supported by St. Stephens Episcopal Church. They depend on donations of food and personal items, as well as financial support from the community.
The need of the week is dinner foods: pasta, sauce, Hamburger Helper, dried beans, chili, beef stew and canned vegetables.
Drop off donations from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday-Friday, and 4-6 p.m. Thursdays at 120 N. Commerce St. in Culpeper. Donation boxes are also at Safeway, Endless Creations, Culpeper Library, Powell Wellness Center and Weis.

Amissville United Methodist holds Adult Sunday School at 9 a.m. in the social hall of the church, 14760 Lee Highway. Sunday service is at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary. Zoom and livestream services are also available.
Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Bible Study with Frank Fishback is at 7 p.m. Tuesdays, both in the social hall.
