NEW ALBANY, Ohio — New Vision Dance Company will celebrate Latin music with an all-new presentation called “Fiesta Tropicale.”
“It is something I’ve wanted to do for years because my background [is], I am a Latina; I am half Mexican and I grew up with that culture in San Jose, California,” said New Vision artistic director Melissa Gould of the inspiration behind the celebration.
The performance takes the stage during the final week of National Hispanic Heritage Month and will feature music from a wide variety of popular Latin artists like Gloria Estefan, Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.
“Our first act is going to be a bunch of individual pieces choreographed by myself as well as members of our company,” said Gould. “We have some tap, some hip hop, some jazz, some contemporary and then the second half of the show, we have a suite of songs that are all composed by Latin artists as well as several guest performers, including a Mexican folklorico dance group, a flamenco group and a group of beautiful singers from New Albany High School.”
A retired professional dancer, Gould built New Vision Dance Company to serve a wide variety of members’ needs.
“My goal and my dream for this company is to provide professional-level dance experiences for local dancers,” she explained. “Our company is composed of college students, working adults, young entrepreneurs and just people who want to keep dance as a strong part of their life while their living the rest of their lives as well as a lot of dancers who come with us to train as a kind of a pre-level before they move on to a more professional career.”
“Fiesta Tropicale” takes the stage of the McCoy Center for the Arts in New Albany on Saturday, Oct. 11, for a pair of shows at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. You can order tickets HERE.
