For more than 60 years, SCORE chapters across the country have provided small business owners with the tools, guidance and support needed for success. As of this month, the Akron and Canton chapters have merged to become one efficient, impactful resource for entrepreneurs in Northeast Ohio.
As a combined chapter, SCORE Akron/Canton serves Carroll, Columbiana, Harrison, Holmes, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, Tuscarawas and Wayne counties and is a direct catalyst for business growth and job creation by empowering small businesses and nonprofits with free one-on-one mentoring, planning support and access to workshops and online resources.
“Our partnership ensures that local entrepreneurs — whether starting a new venture or growing an existing one — have the resources and guidance they need to succeed,” said Jim Sage, SCORE Akron/Canton chair.
As collaboration increased between the formerly separate local chapters, leaders realized that merging efforts and sharing back-office services would improve efficiency and result in lower operating costs.
“The elimination of duplicate administrative services freed up volunteers to focus on supporting our clients,” said Sage.
SCORE volunteers are successful business owners, executives or experts with real-world experience in any sector — all inspired to help others achieve their dreams. Volunteers are needed to serve SCORE Akron/Canton in many capacities:
SCORE Akron/Canton serves our region alongside four other Ohio chapters located in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati/Dayton and Northwest Ohio. In 2024, these Ohio chapters helped establish 2,094 new businesses and create nearly 4,300 jobs.
More than 350 volunteers supported entrepreneurs through Ohio chapters’ initiatives, joining the national network of more than 10,000 volunteers guiding entrepreneurs on their path to success in all 50 states.
