The North Allegheny ice hockey team needed an extra minute to secure the win over Pine-Richland from the Baierl Ice Complex on Thursday night. The Tigers took the 2-1 victory in overtime to remain unbeaten on the season.
NA got the first goal of the game just 32 seconds into the contest, courtesy of senior Alex Costa, assisted by freshman Cole Maier.
Pine-Richland responded with an even-strength goal from Douglas Van Meter in the early stages of the third period.
Late-game heroics came from senior Joey Mitchell, who scored 56 seconds into the extra period, assisted by junior Nicholas Pasquale.
Sophomore netminder Chris Costa earned his second win of the young season, making 27 saves.
With the win, North Allegheny improves to 1-0-1-0 on the season and will be back in action on the road a week from now when the Tigers take on Fox Chapel from the Alpha Ice Complex at 9:00 p.m.
