WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man is facing multiple charges after police said he robbed a downtown business Sunday evening and threatened employees with a gun.
Winston-Salem Police officers responded to Washington Perk & Provisions located at 301 West Fourth Street, around 7:26 p.m. Sunday after reports of a robbery. Investigators said 59-year-old Lee Anthony Harris entered the store, demanded money and threatened to shoot staff members.
According to police, Harris took about $40 worth of merchandise before leaving the store. Officers patrolled the downtown area and later found Harris nearby. After a brief foot chase and struggle, officers said he was taken into custody without further incident.
Harris is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, communicating threats, assault on a government official, and resisting a public officer.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and additional information may be released later.
