On Thursday, students of LSU Manship School gathered in the Holliday Forum to celebrate the annual Sports Summit, where the industry’s professionals come to give their advice on how to navigate the intense world of sports broadcasting, and sports journalism.
Students heard from five time Emmy award winner for CBS, Mark Grant. Award winning sports talk show host, Matt Mocona, staff writer for the Athletic, Katherine Terrell and the Director of social media for the New Orleans Saints, Alex Restrepo.
With all of the star studded professionals, there was one who stood out the most, Brie Andras. Andras works for local network WBRZ as a Sports Reporter, but Andras graduated from LSU only two years ago and has already made a name for herself.
Andras reminisced on her time at LSU and loved being able to come back and give advice to those willing, knowing she was in those seats two years prior.
“I have heard the word ‘no’ more times than I can count, but it’s never discouraged me, I just kept going,” Andras said. “I also never say ‘No’. I think what we talked about in the panel is that, never say ‘no’ to an opportunity because you don’t know where that opportunity can lead you.”
“And sometimes getting told ‘No’ for one thing can lead to something that’s even better. So, I think don’t let that word be negative in your life and don’t let it discourage you.”
