Wacker and SICO Performance Material have opened a joint technology center in Jining. The facility consolidates both companies’ silane expertise and supports the development of additives for plastics, coatings and adhesives.
Wacker and Chinese silane manufacturer SICO Performance Material have opened a joint technology center for organofunctional silanes in Jining. The 2,300-square-meter facility includes several laboratories dedicated to the development of additives and adhesion promoters for use in plastics, coatings and adhesive applications.
The new center serves as a link between research, application development and production. For development work, teams can draw on SICO’s existing production and scale-up resources located at the same site, enabling faster transfer of new products into the market. The investment represents a mid six-figure euro amount.
With this technology center, Wacker strengthens its position in the Chinese market for specialty silanes. Demand for such materials continues to rise, as they help improve mechanical and chemical properties in a wide variety of applications, including electromobility, electronics, energy and communication technologies as well as industrial coatings.
SICO is one of China’s leading manufacturers of specialty silanes. Wacker has held a majority stake in the company since 2022. Both partners bring decades of experience in organofunctional silanes, which are used in sealants, coatings, composite materials and technical plastics.
