Spotify Wrapped 2025 has arrived, and with it a new feature that has determined users’ “listening age.”
Every year, the music streaming service unveils a personalized list that shows each user their listening habits of the past year, like their top artists, songs and albums, and how many minutes they spent listening to music.
For the 2025 Wrapped experience, the company decided to switch things up and add some special categories to go along with the classics. One feature that has caught users and social media’s attention is the “listening age.”
“This story compares your musical tastes to others’ in your age group, looking at the release years of the tracks you listen to most,” Spotify explained about the new element in a press release.
“Age is just a number. So don’t take this personally,” the listening age slide reads on Spotify before revealing a number that reflects the user’s taste.
Other updates include a Top Song Quiz, Top Artist Sprint, Clubs, Fan Leaderboard and Clubs. But users seemed to be most interested in their listening age as they appeared to greatly differ from their actual ages.
Many playfully called out Spotify for essentially aging them by decades on X.
One user wrote, “Going on 67 still bumping the woo,” above two photos that showed her top album was “Meet The Woo 2” by Pop Smoke despite her listening age being 66.
“Since you were into music from the Late 70s. You’re an old soul,” the explanation beneath her listening age read.
Another simply tweeted a series of question marks as Spotify determined their listening age to be 60 because they enjoyed streaming music from the early ‘80s.
Streamer Austin Show said, “Oh COME ON!” when he was given a listening age of 83 thanks to his love of late ‘50s music.
“There’s history in your headphones,” the explanation read.
One account shared screenshots of their listening age compared to their dad. The dad’s Spotify Wrapped 2025 showed a listening age of 19 because he predominately streamed new music. “Your taste is trending,” the explanation read.
But for the X user, Spotify said their listening age was 78 due to them jamming to music from the early ‘60s, deeming them an “old soul.”
While some users are joking about being slightly offended, TODAY’s anchors were proud of their Spotify Wrapped and Apple Music Replay results.
Savannah Guthrie’s top song was “weren’t for the wind” by Ella Langley, while Craig Melvin joined many Apple Music users in having “luther” by Kendrick Lamar and SZA constantly in his rotation.
Al Roker was a big fan of Elton John’s “Philadelphia Freedom” this year, and Sheinelle Jones enjoyed hearing Olivia Dean croon along to “Dive.” Rounding out the TODAY anchors, Willie Geist streamed “Just in Case” by Morgan Wallen frequently and Jenna Bush Hager blasted Alex Warren’s “Ordinary.”
