A Tulsa doctor and singer/songwriter is taking his talents from Green Country to Nashville, Tennessee, and stepping into the spotlight in a new holiday film.
James Robert Webb appears as a fictional version of himself in “Music City Mistletoe,” where his real-life musical background helped shape the story.
Webb, who specializes in Osteoporosis, says his daily life looks very different from the character he plays on screen.
“My day-to-day is helping people with back pain to avoid surgery.”
The film follows a songwriter who moves to Nashville and experiences the highs and lows of the music industry. Webb co-wrote two original songs featured in the movie, and his character is portrayed as a major country music star.
“I get to play the hero country music superstar who comes in and saves the day by cutting this song that the publishing company is depending on.”
Webb has long been involved in Nashville’s songwriting community, which led to the opportunity to appear in the film.
“I was in Nashville very frequently and had a publishing company,” he said. “I had a songwriter, Shantell Ogden, who wrote the screenplay and approached me about being in the movie, and I was like, of course! How many times do you get to be in a movie in your life unless you’re Brad Pitt?”
Despite spending plenty of time in Music City, Webb says his roots remain firmly planted in Green Country.
“I graduated from Kellyville High School back in ’91, and I was, that year, the all-state piano player of the year, and then I went on to become a doctor.”
Balancing careers in both medicine and music, Webb says he’s learned that passion is worth pursuing.
“If there’s something on that’s on your heart that’s been placed on your heart, it’s always worth it to follow that dream.”
“Music City Mistletoe” is now available for purchase on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.
