EATON — City of Eaton Finance Director Stephanie Hurd was presented with the Auditor of State Award during the Monday, Dec.15, city council meeting.
Joe Braden, West Regional liaison for Ohio Auditor of State Keith Faber, visited the meeting to present the award to Hurd.
According to Braden, the Auditor of State Award is presented to local governments and school districts upon the completion of a financial audit that meets specific criteria of a “clean” audit report.
This includes filing the report by the due date in accordance with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); the report not containing any findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, uniform guidance findings or questioned costs; and the management letter containing no comments related to ethics referrals, questioned costs less than the threshold, lack of timely, public meetings or public records issues, bank reconciliation issues, and the entity has no other financial or other concerns.
According to Braden, the Auditor of State’s office audits nearly 4,200 out of 6,000 entities annually and only a small percentage of all entities audited are even eligible for this award.
Mayor Joe Renner noted, “I’ve been on and off here since 1997, and I think the Finance Director has achieved this award, if not every year, then nearly every year since that. We’ve been very fortunate to have some excellent leadership here, and good fiscal responsibility, and that’s not always easy to do and I understand that. So thank you very much, I appreciate it,” Renner told Hurd.
