Scouts honored for religious activities – The Catholic Times

Young people who earned more than 550 medals and badges for completing Catholic-centered programs related to Scouting activities were honored at the annual diocesan Scout Day program at Columbus St. Joseph Cathedral on Sunday, March 1.
Uniform patches were presented to participants from Scouting America, Girl Scouts of America and American Heritage Girls units ranging in age from first grade to high school.
Alexis Kline of Reynoldsburg St. Pius X Church and Girl Scout Troop 581 and Dominic Davoli of Columbus Our Lady of Peace Church and Scouting America Troop 169 received the diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting’s Red Sash of Merit for service to their troop, parish and community.
The committee’s Bronze Pelican award for exceptional service by an adult to Catholic Scouting was presented to Christopher Konik of Delaware St. Mary Church and Scouting America Troop 249 and to Brian O’Brien of Columbus St. Timothy Church and Scouting America Troop 295.
Awards for leadership and service to Girl Scouts, Camp Fire and American Heritage Girls units were presented to two women from St. Pius X Church and Girl Scout Troop 581. Therese Rowsey received the St. Elizabeth Seton medal for meritorious contributions and Janet Rodenkirchn was honored with the St. Anne medal, the highest national recognition for adults who serve young girls participating in the Scout committee’s programs.
Patches were presented to recipients of the Light of Christ and Parvuli Dei awards from Scouting America; the I Live My Faith award from the Girl Scouts; and the God and My Family, God and My Country and God and My Community awards of the American Heritage Girls.

Also recognized were young people who completed uniform patch programs on the Rosary, the Catholic faith, American saints, modern saints, international awareness, the National Eucharistic Revival and the 2025 Jubilee of Hope, as well as the American Heritage Girls’ Girls in Prayer, Bible Basics, Daughter of the King, Human Dignity and
Women of Faith activities.
Units from Hilliard St. Brendan the Navigator Church won the committee’s yearly honors for Catholic Scouting programs. Cub Pack 859 was selected as the Bishop’s Pack; Scouting America Troop 859 was the Bishop’s Troop and St. Brendan’s Girl Scouts were chosen for the Bishop’s Parish award for Girl Scouting. Honorable mentions went to Pack 326 of St. Pius X Church and the American Heritage Girls of Columbus St. Patrick.
