CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) – The city of Carbondale is shutting down The Strip this weekend for the Halloween Homecoming Music Street Festival and SIU Homecoming Parade.
Illinois Avenue will be blocked to traffic on Friday, October 24 and Saturday Oct. 25.
Below is the detours for the closed areas:
Halloween Homecoming Music Street Festival:
Illinois Ave. will be closed from W. College Street to W. Elm St. The detour begins at 9 a.m. on Friday and ends at 1 a.m. on Saturday.
The primary detour for northbound traffic will be at E. Grand Ave. The secondary detour will be at W. Mill St. Local traffic, including delivery drivers, will be allowed to travel north to W. College St.
The alley on the north side of Old Town Liquors will be closed at S. Illinois Ave., and W. Cherry St. will be closed at Illinois Ave.
SIU Homecoming Parade:
Illinois Route 51 (S. Illinois Ave. and S. University Ave.) will be closed south of W. Walnut St. to Pleasant Hill Road. The detour begins at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
All lanes of traffic from E. Grand Ave. north to Cherry St. on S. Illinois Ave. and all lanes of S. University Ave. from Walnut St. south to Mill St. will be closed for the parade. The Mill St. underpass will also be closed. E. Mill St. will be blocked off between S. Illinois Ave. and S. Wall St.
The detour for northbound traffic will begin at Grand Ave. at S. Illinois Ave. The detour for southbound traffic will begin at W. Walnut St.
