Support local small business with the inaugural Pymatuning Lake Christmas Crawl – gazettenews.com

LINESVILLE, Pa. – People who want to shop local during the Christmas season have a little extra incentive this time with the first Pymatuning Lake Christmas Crawl, offering those who shop around the lake at several local businesses a shot at some prizes.
The idea came from Janna Black, the sister of Jonathan York, owner and pitmaster at Russell’s BBQ in Linesville.
“So, my sister…had the idea of getting local businesses to participate in this so-called Crawl that encouraged folks to get out to as many small businesses this holiday season,” he said. “We opened the invite up to any local place around Pymatuning Lake, Ohio or Pa., to be involved – mainly looking for businesses such as restaurants and that have some form of retail to sell.”
There are 14 small businesses participating this year, and local shoppers can stop in at any of them and pick up a “Christmas card” with the contact information for all of the participants.
Visiting each business earns shoppers a stamp or sticker.
“Each business has their own stamp or sticker, and it is up to them on how to reward the stamp. As the owners of Russell’s BBQ, we are asking for at least any purchase or a social media post sharing Russell’s & the Christmas Crawl, then we will award them with their stamp,” York said.
At the end of the crawl cards are to be turned into Russell’s BBQ or emailed to pymaxmascrawl@gmail.com. The cards with the most stamps will be entered to win a slew of prizes donated by each participating location.
The Pymatuning Lake Christmas Crawl runs Nov. 29-Dec. 28. York said participation has been a little slow, since the idea came out in mid-November and there have been a number of big local events, such as Simply Christmas in Andover and the tractor parade in Linesville, that might have depressed turnout.
York said the plan is to being the Christmas Crawl on Oct. 1 next year to give people more time to shop and for the word to get out.
“We hope we can get that number up over 20 for next year if we start planning it sooner,” he said.
So far, York said the prizes – gift packs and cards – are in a sort of pool and will be divided based on how much participation there is and how many people do the most shopping.
