GRAFTON, W.Va. (WV News) — Trailing 64-63 against Nicholas County in Grafton’s Sam Bord Tournament, Lincoln coach Jordan Toth went to the whiteboard with 14.3 seconds left.
“We wanted to get a curl screen to set up Max Myers,” Toth said of the strategy out of the timeout. “But (Nicholas County) switched off the top there with Cole (Vincent), so we told him not to settle for a 3.
Vincent didn’t settle for anything.
“He made a great move and he’s a great scorer. He made a big-time shot for us,” Toth said.
A game-winner, in fact, after the Cougars trailed by 13 at the half.
“The conversation at halftime was to not panic. We challenged them, and I thought they came out and responded really well after giving up 47 in the first half. We just had a much better attitude,” Toth said. “We kept chipping away and kept making big play after big play.”
The biggest one of the night snapped Lincoln’s 17-game losing streak and earned the WV News Play of the Week.
