Ana Tijoux has never separated her music from resistance.
Born in France to Chilean parents who fled Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship in the 70s, Ana Tijoux grew up between worlds. Rooted in culture and global by nature, her music is heavily influenced by Chilean musical revolutionaries and French and U.S. hip-hop of the 90s, including greats like Nas and Slum Village. Today, with three Grammy nominations and one Latin Grammy win, Ana’s decades-long career is recognized and regarded for music that disregards borders and genres.
In this episode of Latino USA, rapera Ana Tijoux reflects on the importance of speaking up for injustice regardless of where you live.
We go behind Ana’s music, including her new EP, ‘97,’ made with long-time collaborator DJ Dacel, and she closes us out by singing a song acapella.
The EP, 97, will be released on March 12.
You can check out the official video for the lead single “VINOS Y VINILOS.
Note: Audio for this episode will be available on Sunday, February 22, when it drops across all podcast platforms.
